Museum of Tolerance Controversy

Senior Haaretz.com editor Bradley Burston wrote in his blog ‘A Special Place in Hell’ against the proposed site of the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem being built by the Simon Wiesenthal Center. After a 2 year court battle the Israeli Supreme Court gave the go ahead to build the museum, against the claims of those who said that the museum was to be built on the site of an ancient Muslim cemetery.

Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, replied that Burston’s accusations were unfounded, as the high court found no legitimate reason to prevent the building of the Museum of Tolerance and that the Simon Wiesenthal Center has always been very sensitive to legitimate religous needs and concerns.
